The Paths We Take

Inspired by the reeds (phragmites) Patterson sees around the coastal northeast, these stainless-steel sculptures were cast from phragmites collected around the artist’s home with the help of the folks at Workshop Art Fabrication.

From Anne: “For years I have been drawn to the beauty of the reeds that I see in and around the coastal northeast: phragmites. Though they are an invasive species, I find them to be so striking, symphonic in clusters and simply regal on their own. Again I’m drawn to the repeated form that actually varies quite a bit from reed to reed.

By now I've been able to see how these stoic shapes play against their environment in all seasons. My dream is to create a long, running fence of the reeds through a field.”
