Magnolias

In these paintings of a blooming magnolia tree, the parts become the whole.

Patterson’s former studio looked out upon a singular magnolia tree. Each April she would paint the awakening of spring as evidenced by this flowering tree. From first small pink buds to explosions of fuschia to green leaves, Patterson witnessed and paid homage to the magnolia’s seasonal expression. The arrangement of the series creates a composite portrait of renewal, regeneration, and natural life force.
